Peter Atkin

Career

Peter completed a Master’s Degree at LSE, London University in International Economic Law, European Community Law Commercial and Company Law and Competition Law and qualified as a Solicitor in 1973 working with various international City firms before moving into Industry as a Legal Advisor to a multi-national conglomerate.  Following this, Peter joined a small financial sector company involved in high tech, as General Counsel and moved to New York and was responsible for setting-up its American subsidiary, and was part of its management team. The parent company later went to a full flotation on the London Stock Exchange.  Peter remained a Director of that Company until its eventual sale, and worked thereafter as a director in the International Mergers & Acquisitions section of the acquiring group.

Summary of Work

Peter undertakes a broad variety of International and Domestic commercial transactions and has developed a very broad range of International legal and business contacts.  He has maintained close links in both private practice and industry, using his experience on both sides of the divide to enable him to undertake and deal with commercial matters for a wide and varied range of clients.  International commercial agreements such as Joint Venture Agreements involving various jurisdictions can often lead to complex and delicate negotiations being undertaken with all parties to the transaction. 

Skills and Approach

Being a “people oriented” lawyer, Peter uses his skills to find solutions and seek advantage for his clients. He is particularly able in the area of negotiation, achieving results in complex situations. His strong commercial and international background has proved an asset during negotiations for commercial agreements. Equally, his specialist skills have enabled him to develop an expertise in the area of Trademarks and Intellectual Property generally, a growth area for expanding UK clients as they move into international markets.

Hobbies and Interests

Peter enjoys theatre, music and keeping fit, participating in Karate classes. He is also a Governor of the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
